I.            Purpose: The National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University College of Photonics (hereinafter referred to as the College) has formulated the Regulations in order to encourage students from the Institute of Photonics System, Institute of Lighting and Energy Photonics and the Institute of Imaging and Biomedical Photonics to actively engage in research, and cultivate talents in related high-tech fields so as to enhance competitiveness. The College provides scholarships and grants for newly admitted master's program students and existing master's program students, doctoral students and direct admissions doctoral students.

II.          Enrollment scholarship for new master's program students: All students who are officially admitted through the screening tests and entrance examinations of the College's three institutes in the current year shall receive a scholarship of NT$30,000 per student. III.        Scholarship for master's program students: 10 scholarships shall be offered to the top ten students in the electro-optics, optical electronics and photonics laboratory courses. Each student shall receive a scholarship amount of NT$30,000. The awards shall be disbursed in an amount of NT$15,000 in October during the first semester and in March during the second respectively. (Students must be enrolled full-time at the time of disbursement; those who are on leave of absence from school shall have the payment cancelled and no make up payment shall be issued). Calculation for the grades shall be the average of the percentile rankings in the abovementioned three courses. If the same course has been taken twice or more, the calculation shall be based on the average of all the percentile rankings in that course. For those who are exempted from the photonics course, the calculation of their grade shall be based on the average of their percentile rankings in the optical electronics and photonic experiment courses.

IV.       Scholarship for doctoral student: The scholarship shall be based on the applicants' (limited to full-time first to third year doctoral students) research paper points in the previous year. A total of three scholarships shall be offered to the top three students. The scholarship amount is NT$10,000 per month for 12 consecutive months (students must be enrolled full-time at the time of disbursement; those who are on leave of absence from school shall have the payment cancelled and no make up payment shall be issued), and shall be disbursed in the amount of NT$10,000 each month starting in February of the current year. Applications shall be submitted in January each year, and the evaluation shall be based on the number of research papers points of published papers from January 1 to December 31 of the previous year (the publication dates of the paper must be within the aforementioned period). The applications shall be reviewed and approved by the Teaching and Curriculum Committee. Details for the point calculation are as follows:

IF1 or P>50%...................... 2 points

                              i.   For the top ranking journal in the field category where there is less than 10 journals, the points calculation may be based on P10%.

ii.   The impact factor and field ranking of the journal shall be based on the latest version of the Journal Citation Report (JCR).

 (2) Author ranking weighting:

i.     Only advisors may be excluded from the number of authors. All other authors (including co-advisors) shall be included into the calculation.

ii.   Weighting is 1.0 when there is only one author.
